Abarca, a pharmacy benefits manager (PBM) disrupting the industry with a new approach to technology and business practices, today announced that Triple-S Management Corp. has renewed its contract for PBM services on behalf of its managed care subsidiary, Triple-S Hi.
This three-year agreement applies to the company’s Medicare Advantage, Commercial, and Federal Employees Health Benefit Program (FEHBP) lines of business.
âAbarca and Triple-S have worked together for nearly a decade to provide a better healthcare experience for members,â said Jason Borschow, President and CEO of Abarca. âThrough our continued collaboration, we have developed innovative clinical solutions and expanded access to medications through our home delivery program. We appreciate Triple-S’s confidence in us and look forward to continuing this adventure.
Triple-S first selected Abarca in 2012 to provide services to the plan’s Medicare Advantage programs. In 2018, Triple-S expanded the deal to include the Commercial and Medicare lines of business. Pursuant to this renewal, Abarca will continue to exercise these functions for three years.
âFrom day one, Abarca has been a dedicated and collaborative partner for Triple-S,â said Madeline Hernández-Urquiza, President of Triple-S Salud and Triple-S Advantage. “We share the goal of improving access to care and driving better health care outcomes in Puerto Rico.”
As part of this new agreement, Abarca will implement a new post-discharge medication reconciliation program that will help ensure members are on safe and effective treatment regimens after discharge from hospital. Abarca clinicians will contact eligible beneficiaries to reconcile medications prescribed for them after discharge with those they took before being admitted to hospital. This will minimize deviations that put patients at risk for adverse drug events or nonadherence.
Triple-S Management is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association.
